The post Morsi charter, strengthening the military and rights simultaneously.

Overview

Approved by referendum in January 2014 after the removal of President Morsi, Egypts constitution extended presidential terms to four years with a two term limit, bolstered civilian and social rights language, and granted the military special status, including defense minister appointment from the armed forces for eight years and broad autonomy for the military budget. It banned parties based on religion, region, or gender. It relaxed some of the 2012 Islamic framing, keeping Islam as state religion and sharia principles as the source of legislation. Amendments in 2019 restored Senate and expanded presidential terms, again extending Sisi eligibility.
